Multiple Stressors On Children s Blood Pressure Essay
When there is more than one stressor that causes implications on oneââ¬â¢s life, it is classified as multiple stressors. Multiple stressors in childhood were found by Evans and English (2002) to yield a large effect on children in low-income households. It was discovered that children who are from low-income families usually face more than one life stressor at a time compared to children residing in middle-income households. In addition, when testing for childrenââ¬â¢s personal psychological well-being of themselves, Evans and English (2002) found that poverty-stricken children scored themselves as having lower self-reported overall well-being. A third finding shows a correlation between children living in poverty and higher levels of childrenââ¬â¢s blood pressure, which can lead to subsequent health problems. Lastly, the environment in which a child lives in can cause stressors in their life. It is noted in Evans and English (2002) that those who live in ââ¬Å"noisier, mor e crowded and lower quality housing than do their middle-income counterpartsâ⬠are more at risk for multiple stressors, which is described as two or more life stressors. In conclusion of these findings, children who experience more than one significant life stressor are usually from poverty-level families, living in poor neighborhoods, and have a lower sense of well-being about themselves as people.
